Four Mile House

This four bedroom house has a strong emphasis on family lifestyle and bringing the family closer together. The design separates the living and resting areas by use of the entrance lobby and relates to the path of the sun from east to west. The entrance lobby is designed to be used by both ‘front door guests’ and ‘back door guests’ as both doors open into this space. A separate, less obvious back door entrance allows access into the utility/mud room.

A bright open plan kitchen, dining and living area form the heart of the home, with an adjoining stepped-down snug area to relax in. The form and materials are quite traditional, using materials such as local Roscommon limestone from a ruin on the site but contemporary details such as the flush eaves and glazing provide a modern feel. The large glazed sections are located specifically to provide the light in the correct areas as both the sun and the family to move through the house over the course of a day.
